Homeschool Memoirs: Happy New Year’s!

Published in Growing In Grace Magazine, Home School Blog Awards, Homeschool Memoirs, The Daily Life at The Daily Planet

Well, I think I may be around more now! I *think* I have dug myself out of my work. I finished 2 pdf’s and have one more. Jocelyn wants to do one too, so I don’t have to do them all! :)
Did you know that life is truly beautiful? It really is. This year only has 12 days in it, but already it has been amazing for me! :D I am just so excited about 2009 and what it holds for my life! There was FINALLY a Homeschool Memoirs put up last week. woot! :P   Of course, I am almost a week late doing it, but like I said…Amanda wasn’t around…
But I am glad they are back and last week’s theme is fun: Happy New Year!

For this week, since I’m quite curious, post about what you did for New Year’s and what your traditions are each year. Have fun!

Let’s see… I got up about 10am after going to bed around 4am the night before, on December 31st and worked all day on GGM. Then stayed up ALL NIGHT and worked, and talked and laughed! Saw the first sunrise of 2009. Pretty cool! Took a little nap for about 45min in the morning and then blogged and talked and laughed some more!
Dad had to work at Lowe’s on New Year’s Day and he brought home a special treat when he came home: Hot Wings! I love hot wings and its been a while since we had them, so it was nice! Then I read GGM for the rest of the night and tried to crochet, but my eyes wouldn’t stay open. ;)
So for my New Year’s this year I pulled a 36hour-er. It was fun, but it messed me up!
SO…. what did you do for New Years?

Homeschool Memoirs: Making A List

I was just thinking today about making up a goal list for 2009! Funny how Jocelyn seems to always know just what I am thinking and uses it for the Homeschool Memoirs! I am really glad for this week’s theme: Making A List

This week I want to set our minds on setting some goals for next year, whether personal, for the whole family, or for school.

Before I get to 2009’s list, I want to share the list from 2008 and what got accomplished on it.

Get into God’s Word everyday. I was able to do this some of the year! It really was neat because I kept a journal with my Bible so I could write down passages that were intriguing to me or that I wanted to remember!

Talk with God daily. I really learned this year that we can’t just pray to God, we have to TALK with him and have a conversation with Him. I am really glad how I did it this year, but I am going to do it even more in 2009!

Be a better example. This will never be complete! but I hope that this past year I have been an example of Christ to everyone I know!

Work on my shortcomings. This too will never be complete as I am human! but God is still working with me on them!

Finish high school. Which I completed this past May! WOOT! :)

Get a laptop. Got my BEAUTIFUL Dell Vostro 1500 for Graduation!

Get the wireless network set up. That was so fun to learn how to do in February.

Sell the Horses. While they are gone, we didn’t get our money from the person who bought them.

Lose weight and get in better shape. I am not sure about any change on this one! :P

I want to see my Great Grandpa and Grandma saved. In September we found out that they really did know what salvation was and had prayed and asked forgiveness for their sins! HALLELUJAH!

I really want our house finished. While it isn’t finished yet, it is on its way and so very close to being complete! 7years is a long time!

Learn CSS. I have learned this, but not mastered it yet!

Learn Photoshop CS3. Same thing! Working on it!

Scrapbooks caught up. Oh… and another year behind. I didn’t even get my scrapbooks out! I would really love to though!

Learn to play guitar. Unfortunately I still don’t know how to play!

Become a better seamstress. Never took the time to learn this year!

Here are my 2009 goals so far:

Get into God’s Word everyday.

Talk with God daily.

Work on all my short comings.

Get on a schedule and stick to it better.

Lose weight and get in better shape by exercising everyday!

Read and accomplish The Love Dare. (I won from Art of Eloquence!)

Buy Fireproof the movie. (Comes out January 26th! WOOT!)

To see Growing In Grace Magazine in print form!

Help the widows and fatherless I know.

I want to learn Spanish, Hebrew, Sign Language, PHP, and CSS fluently.

Learn to play the guitar, piano and maybe the drums.

Learn to sew better! I want to learn to sew better so I will be able to
teach my girls how to sew really well.

Learn to crochet and make special things for my family.

I would like to make myself a new quilt. I made one in 2005, and it was my first time sewing so its not the best.

Master Photoshop CS3.

Learn more about photography and become a better photographer!

Get my scrapbooks caught up to present date!

I am sure I will be adding to it as the year progresses and I grow. I am really looking forward to the coming year! I know God will be doing amazing things in my life and I am fired and ready for them!

Ahh… food! I love food! I talk about it all the time on Twitter & Facebook! Seriously I love food! :) I am pretty excited I can share my love of food with you this week as its the Homeschool Memoirs theme:

This week I want to invite you to share one of your favourite winter treats. A treat you look forward to making when the snow falls and include the recipe for it so others can try it out.

This theme got me to thinking… I don’t really have a special food that I eat in the winter… except for peanut brittle. During the winter months is the only time people give us it, so I guess it can be called my winter treat. I have never made peanut brittle, so I don’t have a recipe of my own. So if anyone has a really good one, leave me a comment with it in it, so I can think about making myself some peanut brittle! :)
Here is a Traditional Peanut Brittle recipe from The Nut Factory:

2 cups sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup water
2 cups raw Spanish peanuts
1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. butter2 tsp. baking soda

Heat and stir sugar, syrup and water in a heavy 3-quart saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Add salt. Cook over medium heat to soft ball stage (234 degrees). Add peanuts at 250 degrees. Cook to hard crack stage (290 degrees), stirring often.  Remove from heat.

Quickly, stir in butter and soda. Beat to a froth for a few seconds. Pour at once onto 2 well-buttered 15-1/2×10-1/2×1-inch pans, spreading with spatula. If desired, cool slightly and pull with forks to stretch thin. Break up when cold. Yield: About 1-1/2 pounds of peanut brittle.

Homeschool Memoirs: Chores!

Published in Being A Homeschool College Student, Home School Blog Awards, Homeschool Memoirs, Me Myself and I, The Daily Life at The Daily Planet

Chores… something we all do everyday almost all day. The chores I do are a part of my life, so they are a part of my schooling. I mean you can turn everything into school, right? You can always learn something from everything you do! So with that being stated I thought that when I saw what the Homeschool Memoirs theme it was neat!
This week I would you to share how chores are done in your home. How you order your day with school and getting housework done. How do you decide which chores should be done by which child, of which age? I’m looking forward to hearing them!
The chores that ONLY I do are: Laundry, bathroom, menu, grocery, and errands.
Laundry… I take care of ALL the laundry! It is a big task too in our family of 10. My loads usually consist of: towels, rags, darks, whites/lights, cloth diapers, and Lillie’s/Mine. I usually wash all those loads everyday too, so that is 6 loads a day. Not to mention lately we have had big comforters that need washing a lot too. So I wash them all, dry them, hang dry the cloth diapers, fold them, and put them away!
Bathroom… Since our laundry room is in the bathroom right now I usually clean the bathroom when I do laundry. I clean the counter and faucet, clean the mirror, pick up the floor, pick up the stuff in the shower, straighten up the shelves, and fix the towels, sweep the floor, then mop the floor.
I also wipe down the washer and dryer and organize the laundry detergent shelf. I do all this about twice or three times a day.
Menu… I make up the menu, the grocery list, and make sure its all within our budget of $180 for 11 people. Sometimes its a little hard, especially since we buy almost all organics, but God sure stretches our dollars! :) Grocery… I go grocery shopping every week on Tuesday. It usually takes me about 2-2 1/2 hours to do all the shopping. We shop around to get the best prices.
Errands… I am the only one who goes places. Mama and Jocelyn are homebodies and since Mama and I are the only ones with licenses, I go run errands for everyone. I usually run errands for animal feed, Dr. Pepper, library movies and books, and anything we would need from Dollar General. I usually just go down to Podunkersville to get stuff, but occasionally I will go into the City for things, but we usually just ask Dad to grab stuff that we can’t get from Podunkersville on his way home from work.

Besides those chores I also cook dinner, clean the living room, kitchen, and parlor, I wash dishes, and more… chores never end do they! :P

Homeschool Memoirs: Candy, Candy, Candy

Published in Home School Blog Awards, Homeschool Memoirs, Me Myself and I, Super Favorites, The Daily Life at The Daily Planet

So I was named “Candy Fiend” by Jocelyn… yeah it is true! :P I love candy! And this week’s Homeschool Memoirs is a perfect theme for me:
This week it’s seriously going to be just fun. This week share your favourite candies. I know from being on the HSBA Post team that Sprittibee and Dawn love gummy-bears, and maybe Bunny too. Have fun with this… and you’re welcome to post a photo of YOU eating your favourite candy. Haha!
God’s Word is also like sweetness to our souls. His sweet love, forgiveness, comfort, peace, and more is what makes our lives seem a little more bearable when things get rough. Whenever you eat your sweet piece of goodness remember that God loves you and will always be there when life seems sour.
Share a scripture for this week as well. One that lifts you up when you’re feeling discouraged.

My absolutely fave candies are:

Blue Raspberry, Green Apple, and Cherry

Dark Chocolate M&M’s too!

YUM! I want to go get some candy now. :P

Psalm 119:103
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

God’s words are truly THE sweetest thing! I love to read and hear His word! I pray I never lose my taste for His sweet word!

Homeschool Memoirs: A Thankful Heart

Published in Cal-Eb, Home School Blog Awards, Homeschool Memoirs, LucyLillie, Me Myself and I, Reflections of a 19 year old, The Daily Life at The Daily Planet, The Fam, What the Bible means to Me- A 19 year old
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w108/hsbawards/Homeschool%20Memoirs/hm20.png
We all know what tomorrow is, well in the US anyway, its Thanksgiving. It is wonderful that we have set a day to show how thankful we are for everything God has given us, although we shouldn’t only show it on the third Thursday in November but I am thankful for the day that we have set aside to really show how thankful we are. This week’s Homeschool Memoirs really allows us to show how much of A Thankful Heart we really have:
This week, you guessed it, is going to be about having a thankful heart! Yes, of course, we should always be thankful for everything we’re blessed with, but it’s not too often we actually sit and ponder what. This week please join me in writing 27 things you’re thankful (There’s got to be at least 27things!). I picked 27 because this year Thanksgiving is on the 27th of November. Also, share a Scripture verse for this week!
I am not sure I can squeeze everything I am thankful for in 27 spaces, but I can say the things I am MOST thankful for! :)

1. The amazing gift Christ offers: Salvation
2. A loving God who will take me back even when I stray away.
3. A wonderful family.
4. Caleb, my dude even when he is running around late at night and we want to strap him to the wall.
5. LillieGirl, my Sweetness!
6. My awesome Vostro.
7. A wonderful house that is warm and cozy even if its a mess.
8. Winter. Yes, even if I absolutely hate the cold, I am thankful for it because it reminds me how much I LOVE summer.
9. For vacuums and brooms and dustpans because I can’t stand dirty floors.
10. Finding organic face care, so I can be healthy inside and out.
11. For all the things God is showing me and doing for me, even the painful ones.
12. For sweet friends like Misty and SisterLisa.
13. For the opportunity to minister and be ministered through blogging.
14. That God supplies all our needs.
15. For little packages in the mail.
16. For little encouraging emails from friends I love.
17. For a washer and dryer and the 10 loads of laundry I do everyday.
18. Raspberry Tea and hot coffee with Hazelnut creamer.
19. Not having to get a job to provide for myself.
20. Being homeschooled and graduating with honors.
21. For all the warm blankets I have gotten or made: Handmade Quilt, BIP afghan, Superman fleece, and leopard fleece.
22. Having Grandma here to go to the store with me.
23. Food. I love food and am so glad that God gives us the food we need!
24. For hardships and trials that God allows us to walk through. They make us stronger when we finish!
25. Caleb and LillieGirl’s kisses!
26. For the Word of God. That I can read it and know what He wants of me.
27. For the Wonderful Life I have!
2 Corinthians 9:11
Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
What are you thankful for?
