A Homeschool Senior’s Favorite Resources

Published in Being A Homeschool Senior, Book and Literature Articles, HSB Literary Club, Homeschooling Articles

I know I am just a senior in homeschool, but seeing how time passes very quickly and before I know I will be a homeschool mom, I think it is good to have a list of resources and homeschooling books and such you like. Well here are a couple of resources that I really have enjoyed using, either as a student or just because.

Mystery of History: These books are so great because they are very informative. They are great for little children, but also for the older ones too. It does a great job on keeping both of their attentions, all the while making history interesting.

Historical Movies: We like to watch a lot of historical movies. After we have watched the movie, we like to do some research on it and see how accurate it was and then learn a little more about the time period it was set in. That is a great way to learn about history and how our world perceives it nowadays.

Literature: The old literature books are the best! They have culture, history, and much more in each books. They are not crowded with all the modernness of the newer books, and in my opinion are much safer!

HSB Literary Club: Great book club for discussions on the Lamplighter company books. Those little books are God-filled and really inspiring.

ABeka: I really like theirhandwriting workbooks. They not only give the lessons of handwriting, but they have some pretty neat historical lessons in there too. I always loved it when it came to my handwriting time!

Saxon Algebra: This is the best algebra program that worked for me. It was pretty easy to learn it and the do the lessons. Very instructive and simple.

Easy Grammar: Very simple to do and can get a lot of lessons done in one setting. The approach to grammar is so easy, just like the title of the series.

Spelling: I learned spelling by using an A Beka book, but I have found that just reading and reading has enhanced my vocabulary more than that spelling book did.

Computer Technology: I would say that just being on the computer and getting to know it is more of a learning experience than reading about it. I taught myself how to touch type just by being on the computer. By just being on it a lot and doing a lot of different things on it, you will come to know it and learn about it.

Webster’s 1828 Dictionary: This dictionary is his first version and I have to say it is the best! We use it to get the true meanings of words.

The Homeschooler’s Book of Lists Resource: This is a great resource book. It has a lot of different facts for many things. I love looking at it just to further my knowledge and because it is fun to read.

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
: This magazine is a must have for homeschoolers. They always have helpful articles, encouraging articles, and it is so uplifting to read.

Elijah Company Catalog: This catalog is very informative for all types of homeschooling. It will take you through the differences of the types of homeschooling and how it best suits each child. It will also help you decide what will work best for you.

The Bible: Obviously this is a no brainer. Without God everything would fail, so it is extremely important to make Him a part of every aspect of our lives, even our education.

Heart of Wisdom: This is a great resource for putting the Bible first in your education. Very great book to have if you want to put God first in your homeschooling. It was greatly influenced, and actually a combination of teaching methods, utilizing the Charlotte Mason’s philosophy; 4 Step Lessons; Ruth Beechick’s language arts teaching methods; the integrated unit study method, the Lifestyle of Learning approach; David Mulligan’s writings in book Far Above Rubies: Wisdom in the Christian Community; and a writing-to-learn philosophy similar to that used by The Principle Approach.

A lot of my schooling is just day to day life. I actually do a quite a bit of my schooling online because I write for a lot of places, do business work on it, and just learn a lot because of the internet.
I am sure there are more resources I like, but that pretty much covers them. What are some of your favorite resources and companies you like? I would love to hear them.

Hey Amanda ~ How have you been? Good I hope. :-) Congrats on your award!

Those are great resources. I agree with you about literature – classics are the best! I wish that I was rich enough to buy the whole set of Lamplighter books – those are great too. Lol.

    Have a blessed day,
    Mandy
