Just recently I asked Mama if we could go to the Gene Stratton-Porter museum since its about 30min away. I love GS-P and her works! I just finished Her Father’s Daughter and it was really good! :) When I asked Mama about going she said we could make it a field trip. I thought it was funny that Field-trips is this week’s theme for Homeschool Memoirs:

This week I’d like to invite you to share your favourite field-trip that you’ve been able to go on since you’ve started homeschool. I’d encourage you to include photos, but you don’t have to.

So to do this theme, I had to do some digging in our old photos. I wasn’t sure which field trip I wanted to do it about. We haven’t gone to a whole lot of field trips, and none recently, but here is one of my favorites was going to Doud’s Orchard. Dad took us to this field trip and that in itself made it special! :) While there we learned about apples, honey, went through a corn maze, and a hay ride.

Here was the honey section. They made honey there because they had beehives to help with their apple trees.

Here is where the corn maze was. I believe that is the first and only corn maze I have ever been too. Being the city gal I am, I am not much into that type of stuff anyway. lol!

Here is all of us gals walking through the maze.  It was pretty big I think and took about an hour to get through.

I don’t remember the story behind this, but I assume from looking at it, that Jocelyn had found some whole corn and was proud of herself. :) She had a ball going through that maze and so did Rachel!

After the maze, we took a tour of the orchards on a hay ride. We got to pick apples off the trees and eat them too! :) They were pretty good.

I can’t believe I remember this field trip… it was EIGHT years ago! lol! But it was fun and memorable and I am so glad we went.
This week was really neat and a jog down memory lane and I had a really fun time remembering this trip!

    Hey Amanda!!!

I just wanted to let you know that I e-mailed/commented you on the SSA site (I didn’t know if you check it very often), but then you may have already replied to my e-mail (our main computer I-net is down and mom’s the only one that can “hack in” to e-mails) and I haven’t read it yet…..anyhow. ^_^

I’d REALLY like to join SSA!!! ^_^

    Looks like fun!!
You girls were, oh, so much younger. :)
I don’t know if I would like a corn maze.
I don’t think I’m claustrophobic. I just like to be able to know my way out. If I don’t know how to get out, esp. after 5min., then I’ll panic. I sure don’t see me in there for an hour. :)
    Blessings,
    Michelle

Oh wow. Take me back… You are soooo young! Look at Rachel! She looks like a baby! How old was she? 4? And Jocelyn was 6!

I didn’t get to go to this one, but I sure do remember these photos! I am so glad you dug them out!

I would LOVE to go to the GSP Museum. I guess we just need to get the info on times they are open, etc. and make a plan to go! I love, love, love museums. I’ll bet you didn’t know that! I would love to go to the Museums in CHI. That would be fun! Or even in Indy. I remember going to the Science and History Museum in CHI, though, when I was little.
    I think I do!

Love you, and thank you for the really neat pics. I should post several FTF photos. Remember when we went to the Vera Bradley FT? That was pretty cool. That was before we sewed and quilted anything! They had rolls and rolls of all that fabric! Wow!
    Great post Amanda!
    LOVE YOU!

Sounds like a fun field trip.. i do miss getting to go on field trips.. my favorite would have to be the times we went down to washington D.C .. living in maryland it was only about a 45 min ride down there ( you would drive to the metro.. like a subway.. and the metro would drop you off right in D.C)

Oh, I remember when we went to a “honey” farm; my Matt was home, and I think you girls went with us. Your mom and I took turns, with one of us taking the bigs to the field trip and the other keeping the littles at home. This Friday there’s a field trip an organic Dairy Farm in Ligonier, but we’ll wait ’til Daddy’s home for our field trips.

    Be blessed,
    Danielle
