My 2008 List Of Books To Read

Published in Book and Literature Articles, Homeschooling Articles, The Daily Life at The Daily Planet

Sorry I didn’t blog on Wednesday. I just didn’t have time. Got up late, really late. Went grocery shopping and did barn chores and by that time, it was dinner time and then clean up. So I didn’t get to blog. I may not be blogging in the future as much as I would like. I hope it doesn’t change, but you never know.

Anyway, I am joining in A Joyful Heart’s Winter Reading Challenge. I recently posted “What I Am Reading” and also “My 2007 List of Books Read“, and now it is time for “My 2008 List of Books To Read”. I know I have been posting A LOT about books. I hope to be adding more to my list as the year goes on and I see or hear of more books, but this is what I have so far.

Currently Reading:
Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens
Emma by Jane Austen
Persuasion by Jane Austen
The Inheritance by Christoph von Schmid with the HSB Literary Club
Kingdom Series by Chuck Black– books4-6

Literature Books To Read In 2008:
The Infinite Day by Chris Walley
Ishmael by E.D.E.N. Southworth
Self-Raised by E.D.E.N. Southworth (just got this last week. Can’t wait to start it!)
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
More Than A Prophet by Lloyd C. Douglas
Bleak House by Charles Dickens
The Ultimate Gift
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
Sentinel: City of Destiny by Landel Bilbrey
The Simarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
Across The Wide River by Stephanie Reed

Other Books:
My *NEW* Reese Chronological Bible
Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss
The Homeschooler’s Book of Lists by Sonya Haskins
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

It would be really neat if I actually end up reading all 27 I have listed and I am sure to add more. Especially because I am moderating the HSB Literary Club. There will definitely be more added to this list just because of that. But I do hope to add more as I come across books I think I would like to read.
And I need to change my 16 books read in 2007 to 23 books read in 2007. I read 16 Literature books, I forgot to include the Other Books I read that weren’t literature. lol!
I will be posting “My Favorite Book Read in 2007” soon. This brilliant idea came from Brooke. Great Idea, Darling! I will go through the books I read and see which one I liked best and why I liked it. So it is be a sort of review of that book… or books, if I can’t decide!
Love, Blessings and Prayers As Always,

Ooh! I’ve been wanting to read The Screwtape letters. Now that you reminded me :D I think I’m going to make a point to read it next week.

Arrg, I didn’t like Stepping Heavenward, and I absolutely hated The Flower of the Family by the same author. But, I know a lot of people love them. Let me know what you think!

Yup, I like John Bunyan, he earned two places on my list.

Aw, thanks for your comment, Amanda! I can’t wait to hear about your favorite book out of your reads.

I actually started Gone With the Wind a little after you started it–and I haven’t picked it up after I read a few chapters. I don’t know, I guess something about Scarlet’s character almost made me feel depressed. There was also some boring chapters, but I managed to get past those, but yet, Scarlet, the wrong she she does, and the blah-blah-blah, really made me want to read something else. But who knows- I may try to read it again another time. There’s just so many books I want/need to read!! I know I really need to read some more non-fiction/classics. So, I looking forward to knowing what was your favorite out of what you read, because I trust your judgment and I just might pick it up and read it myself!

Thanks for letting me know about the sign up subscriber your blog. I will have to do that!

And—Please stop by my blog! I am starting a “challenge” for female teens! I really hope you will join us!!

    Blessings,

Mere Christianity is a great book! I’ve read the entire thing, a must read. Well I finally put RSS in my blog, which helps things. The RSS stuff is all on the right side of the page. Sorry I haven’t been commenting, it’s kinda busy here. God bless.

I think either you get me wrong or else I’m the one at fault here. I meant that I always read the Chronicles Of Narnia in publication order. You know, The Lion, The Witch, And the Wardrobe, then Prince Caspian, after that the Voyage Of The Dawn Treader. I’m not sure if I could bare to do it any other way. Just like a chronological Bible would confuse and bug me to no end. But, *shrug*.

I aught to read the Screwtape Letters, just like I aught to read so many others. Several Jane Austens on that list I see.

Have fun with the Kingdom Series, mother started reading those to us a few days ago, but we quit in the middle of the second book, they’d make a better movie then they work as books, or such is my personal opinion here. They’re know listed and waiting for some unsuspecting person to snab them up.

I’m sure I’d be delighted to hear what you think of them later on.

It’s fine that you didn’t get a post up for me. :D I’m just glad you left me a comment wishing me a Happy Birthday! :D Thanks again!

That’s great that you like historical fiction too. :D I think one of the best people who writes historical fiction is Gilbert Morris. And there’s a couple who writes H.F. but I can’t remember their name. Umm. . .I think it’s Bodie and Brock. . . .well, I can’t remember there last name. :D They’re really awesome writers!
Well, hope you have a wonderfully blessed day!

    lots of hugs,

Your list looks great! There are quite a few I would like to read myself. Do you believe I have never read The Scarlet Letter?! I’ve wanted to for a long time but never got around to it. lol.
Two on your list that I love are Screwtape Letters and Stepping Heavenward. Both completely different books but so wonderful for the Christian to ponder.
I remember reading Jane Eyre when I was about your age and thinking it was one of the best books I ever read.
Looking forward to reading your book reviews!

That sounds like a really good idea (posting about your favorite book(s) that you read last year)! Can’t wait to see that post!
Out of the books you listed I saw some books that I’ve been wanting to read too! Kingdom Series, The Screwtape Letters, and the Sillmarillion(sp?).
    Thank-you for the comment!

I absolutely love Stepping Heavenward. I have said this elsewhere, and I will say it again, I would read it as a devotional, I like it so much. It truly revealed to me some things, and though forget what they are sometimes, I can always go back and learn it again.

Go ahead and take some of my books, only, let me know what you thought afterwards!

BTW, are you still keeping up the Homeschool Seniors blog?

Ah, reading is such a wonderful thing. After seeing your reading list I have an urge to go to the library.

I have been so bad about writing of any kind latey. Blogs, comments, you name it and I’m sure I’ve been bad about it. Please excuse my lack of comments on here. I still love reading your blog!

    Hope you are doing well.
