I Always Said…

Published in Being A Homeschool College Student, City Gal Living In The Country, Me Myself and I, The Daily Life at The Daily Planet, The Fam

I wanted to be a nurse… be careful what you say… God has a sense of humor. :) If you know me, you know I. do. not. like. goats! period! I never have. They kinda creep me out. But like I said… I always wanted to be a nurse… and now I’m a goat nurse. I’ve mastered giving goats shots… like with needles. :O Done it so much that I could walk you through giving one, actually here… I’ll just show you.

That shot was 10cc of C&D Antitoxin of Equine Origin meaning you don’t WANT to know what its made of… but it smells nasty and it lingers! bleh!

I remember the first shot I gave. It was about 2 years ago to one of the older goats and it was a 6cc shot of penicillin. I had read up on how to give the shot, but was so worried I would hurt the goat when I did it. It wasn’t too bad tho. Since giving that particular goat a shot, I’ve given a lot more shots and she was definitely easier than some of the other goats I’ve shot up. :P

So yeah… I just knew y’all were dying to know how to do that, weren’t you? :P didn’t think so. But maybe someone will need that know how.

living a learning experience everyday,

Oh, fun! I used to give a lot of shots, but now Susannah does most of that : ) I liked it pretty well when I did it though : D Except for when the goat runs off with the needle still stuck in it’s side :P You were very smart to have the goat on the stand : D

    Love and hugs!

You have more guts than I do :) I don’t mind the goats, its the needles I’m afraid of. I don’t like them going into me or anyone else. I think I would be to afraid of pricking myself.

Yah I was kinda worried I would stick myself. On some of the wiggly goats I still am, but mostly I can tell if I’m getting close to doing that. Practice makes perfect! ;)

Before I got married and moved to Pittsburgh I lived with my family in the country and we had goats. I was responsible for sharing the milking duties and honey, let me tell you, I LOATHE GOATS.

So glad to be living in the city now with that behind me. But I’m sure there’s a reason God had me grow up in the country that I just haven’t discovered yet.

It looks a lot like giving puppy shots. You’d think it would take good practice for humans, but No! I still would not want to have to give a shot to a person. I was only surprised how long it took. Maybe puppy shots are just smaller cuz once getting it in the neck it seems like I just pushed the plunger, and it was over. It’s been a long time though and memory is not quite like being there and doing it. It probably took longer to get up my nerve than to actually give the shot.
Anyway this would look good on your resume if you ever decided to work for a vet Amanda ;)

    [Reply]

    SuperAngel Reply:

yeah… I don’t think I would want to give a human a shot unless it was dire circumstances. If I didn’t have to give so much, it probably would be like stick and plunge, but can’t do that when you’re giving 12cc or more!

I don’t think I will ever want to work for a vet.. unless its my Man of Steel. :P not a big animal person…

Haha, that’s classic. I’ve never heard of anyone with a fear of goats before. Man you’re right, God definitely does have a sense of humor. I hope the goats realize the sacrifice you’re making for them :)

It’s always fun to hear a blogger’s voice for the first time!

As for shots, I’ve only ever given cows shots; once, the needle separated from the syringe, the needle was still stuck inside, and blood squirted everywhere.

And now you’re probably horrified…I shouldn’t have said that…anyway, glad to see your experience has been better than mine!

    haha! yeah… it doesn’t sound like me, I don’t think. :P

wow… that is bad… I use the luer lock syringes so they are separate til I hook them together. I sure hope that never happens… I would STOP giving shots to anything after that… uhhh!

I’ve given a horse a shot before – once. I think. I can’t quite remember!! I’ve seen Dad give shots before to dogs, horses and cows before though, so it’s not a ’shocking’ event. We always assure people when we go out that if anything goes wrong – there is a vet nearby!! :D

And it was funny to hear your voice after imagining your voice for the last… two years? Which leads me to ask: the stats on your left sidebar; they say you’ve had x numbers of visitors since 2007 – is that when you moved to WordPress? Time sure flies!!

Okay, first off….I’ve never heard your voice before! :O haha

And I found your video very interesting and helpful. About a year ago we needed to give our puppies some shots and had no clue how to go about it. We ended up taking them to my aunt because she’s a nurse, but we sure could have used this video back then. I was SO scared to give them shots! I think I could maybe do it now though…maybe.

    Much Love,

We also have goats and I was just curious what C&D Antitoxin of Equine Origin is for?

    [Reply]

    SuperAngel Reply:

the antitoxin is for Enterotoxemia (http://fiascofarm.com/goats/medications-2.htm) which Mom said is basically overeating disease. It kills very fast. We actually lost a mama goat to it earlier this summer and then almost lost another a couple weeks later.

I am a nurse, and giving shots is my favorite thing to do. I know that prolly sounds a bit morbid, but I love doing it. Its funny too because I am so scared of needles. It is so different when you are on the other side though haha.

  20. Kira Says:

Wow, you’ve got a lot of courage to do that. ;) For me though, it would just be the overall fear of shots that I hate. The goats, well, I could deal with that. :)

And it’s funny…usually when you imagine someones voice for so long, you’re surprised when you actually hear it, but yours sounds pretty much how I imagined it to be! lol
