Being the city loving gal I am, I’m not big on animals, except for horses. Well on Saturday we went to TSC to get a shirt for Jocelyn’s birthday, and while we were there we saw the chickies and ducklings. I gotta tell ya… baby animals are the cutest thing ever! We’ve had a lot of babies on our homestead lately… surprise chickies and 2 batches of kittens. They are really cute.
Well Monday we decided to go get some ducklings before they were gone, so we loaded up the van minus Jocelyn and Eric and headed to TSC to pick them up. Like I said… I’m not big on animals, but these ducklings have grown on me. They are so adorable and I love them!
LOL!
I actually held one! :O Hard to believe huh? I have affectionately named this duckling, Aflac. (saying that in my most nasal voice)
So we have added 6 little ducklings to our little farm. They are so adorable and I actually love to just stand by their tub and watch them.
Their little flippers and wings are so funny too. Its so neat to see them stand up and yawn. Really its a site to see! I love to hear their little quacks too… everytime I hear it… I say… “Aww!” Not to mention how friendly they are! They look straight at you with their cute little eyes and they come up to my hand when I go to pet them.
I gotta say… I <3 ducklings. Now that might change when they go up… we’ll see!
I think I like them too much right now, since I have written a whole post about how cute they are… what’s happening to me!
Softening up to the country a tad,

I like the ducklings too. I like the chicks, but the ducklings are so much more cuddly!

My uncle was shrooming two years ago by a lake, and a mama and two babies (ducks) started following him around and seemed lost, and we’re the only farm people in the family, so, ever since then, we’ve had ducks.
A few observations:
Ducks can beat up cats and chickens.
Ducks really like to eat cat food.
Ducks smell really bad.
Ducks lay eggs (Duh, I know…:)) that actually (IMHO) taste better than chicken eggs.
Ducks like to travel in packs. They are very social animals, even more so than chickens, and will go to almost any lengths to stay close to their families – even when that “family” is a chicken (I speak from experience…)

thank you for that wealth of info…
guess we’ll have to keep the ducks in a pen away from the other animals.
have any of them died from eating cat food? I know if the goats eat dog food they could die.
I can tell they are really social. They really like me!
I don’t like eggs, except deviled, so I wonder if I will be able to taste the difference.
thanks for sharing your experiences! LOL!

Nope, they’ve been chasing the cats away and eating their food for as long as I can remember, and they seem pretty healthy. Maybe that’s why the eggs…taste…oh no. I wish I hadn’t talked to you now.

They are so cute!! And, yes, all babies are cute when they are sleeping
I often think how adorable my boys are, until about 7 am:)
I would love to have ducklings or chicks but it is just not conducive to my neighborhood (pretty urban). My neighbors hated when we had a lot of cats
One day, though!
Blessings~

Oh! Ducks are so much fun! We don’t have any anymore but, we loved filling up a little kiddie pool and watching them play! It really is very entertaining! And, yes…they’re so cute…and they actually stay cute (imho)…whereas chickens…well, yeah…at least they’re useful. =P
Have fun with them!
God bless!

yeah… grownup chickens are annoying… I do not like them unless they’re like fried, or BBQ’d or with cheesey noodles…

One of my sons made a bookmark for me for Mother’s Day with a picture of a duck (or maybe it was a goose) and it said, “Happy Mother’s Day and Afflac!” I didn’t know what to think of THAT! LOL!
I love the photos. Your ducklings are so sweet!

Those ducklings are soooo cute! We had fully grown ducks one time, and it is so funny to hear them quack. They sound like they’re laughing at you : D They are much more tolerable than geese–geese are so proud and haughty and they think they are the king of the property : D Ducks are just cute!
Love you!

Yes, baby animals can be super cute. Both of my sisters’ families have had baby chicks… and they are much cuter than the chickens [smile]. May you enjoy the ducks, even when they are older!

Awww… aren’t they sweet! We have tried ducks but we have found that ducks and my dog do NOT get along. I mean, my dog likes them, she just plays a little too rough
lol
I love baby animals, but they never stay babies! That’s the one thing that I don’t like!!
Blessings!
