Saturday Psalm and Praise: In The Secret

Published in My Mama: My Best Friend, Prayers, Reflections of a 18 year old, Saturday Psalm and Praise, The Daily Life at The Daily Planet, What the Bible means to Me- A 18 year old

About 6 years ago, when I was in our church’s youth group, we would occasionally do a special for one of the services. There are a couple I really enjoyed doing and one of them was In The Secret. Mama was a coordinator for us and she taught us some motions to do to the song. I always loved doing that because it was such a way to worship God!
So for today’s
Saturday Psalm and Praise, I chose to share with you the words and the meaning of this awesome praise to our God!

In The Secret
In the secret

In the quiet place
In the stillness You are there
In the secret
In the quiet hour I wait only for You
Cause, I want to know You more

Chorus:
I want to know You
I want to hear Your voice
I want to know You more
I want to touch You
I want to see Your face
I want to know You more

I am reaching for the highest goal
That I might receive the prize
Pressing onward
Pushing every hindrance aside
Out of my way
Cause, I want to know You more.

Chorus (3x
The verse this song is based off of is one of my favorites. I found it at the beginning of the year when I was studying the Word.

Matthew 6:3-7
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

I really love that verse and I have learned so much from it! I have learned to have actually talk with God. I have learned to not say the same things or ask for the same things over and over.
I am so thankful for God’s word! It is so refreshing to read and I am just so thankful for a handbook to be what God wants me to!

Be sure to go over to my Mama’s blog and check out her Saturday Psalm & Praise for this week. She has a great one and its from one of my new favorite Witnessing Outreach Ministries!

That is one of my favorite songs. I actually made an attempt at recording that song. Okay, I need some more sophisticated recording equipment and a band. Once I get that I’m on the road. ;)

It is amazing when we get beyond just requests in our prayer life and we begin to have fellowship with God. I have seen the need to work on my relationship with God and devote more time to prayer and reading His Word. I heard someone say that (as I recall) if you only spend 15 min a day with someone you will not get to know them very well. The same can be said of our relationship with God. Sorry for rambling. :)
    Good Post.

    Hey Amanda,
I wanted to stop by and leave you a little word :) I did enjoy your interview with your favorite author…it was interesting and I could really hear the excitement :) I love this song because it brings me back to the whole reason God created us. He wants a relationship with his people! If we understand that we also should desire that as well. My heart is to know Him more and more. To hear his voice. We have been singing this song recently at church:) So it was a blessing to see it was your SP&P….I’m kinda bummed I didn’t get to write one w/Uncle a in the ER :( ….Thanks sweetie…Love you,
    Aunt Jen
